  5. Trillium Sound Research Announces Special Offer on TextToSpeech User Kits.

  8. CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA -- September 7th, 1994 -- Trillium Sound
  9. Research Inc. today announced a time-limited special offer on their
  10. TextToSpeech User Kits.  The Kits will sell for $99 CDN (approximately
  11. $75 US) until the end of September, for savings of over 40% off the
  12. regular price of $175 CDN.

  14. The User TextToSpeech Kit gives users the ability to convert any
  15. length of text into synthetic speech in real time.  It includes
  16. PrEditor, an application used to customize pronunciations, and
  17. BigMouth, an application which provides a text-to-speech service to
  18. any application which has a Services menu.  Converting text to speech
  19. is as simple as highlighting text, or dragging a file into a well.
  20. The user has full control over speaking rate, pitch, volume, and
  21. stereo balance.  Natural-sounding intonation is provided
  22. automatically, and may be controlled manually.  Controls such as
  23. pause, resume, and stop are also included.

  25. Pronunciations are provided by a large Main Dictionary, plus optional
  26. custom dictionaries created by the user and/or application developer.
  27. A letter-to-sound algorithm gives pronunciations for neologisms and
  28. rare or misspelled words.  Numbers, symbols, abbreviations, and the
  29. like are handled intelligently.

  31. Developers can incorporate text-to-speech capabilities into their
  32. applications by using the TextToSpeech Developer Kit.  A superset of
  33. the User Kit, it includes the TextToSpeech Object, example code, and
  34. full developer documentation.  The User Kit can be upgraded to the
  35. Developer Kit easily and inexpensively.

  37. The User Kit costs $99 CDN (approx. $75 US), plus shipping, in single
  38. quantities, till September 30th (regular price is $175 CDN).  Site
  39. licenses and discounts on quantity purchases are available for the
  40. User Kit.  The Developer Kit costs $350 CDN (approx. $290 US), plus
  41. shipping.  The User Kit can be upgraded to the full Developer Kit for
  42. $175 CDN (approx. $145 US).  Current owners of Version 1.0 of the
  43. TextToSpeech Kit can upgrade to Version 1.07 for the nominal charge of
  44. $15 CDN ($35 CDN for overnight delivery) to cover media, shipping and
  45. handling.  A demo of the Kit is not available, but we do offer a 30
  46. day money-back guarantee on single quantity purchases.  New Kits are
  47. shipped via air courier ($20 charge to North American destinations,
  48. $40 to overseas destinations).  Currently, the TextToSpeech Kits run
  49. only on NeXT Computers.  Ports to other platforms are in progress.
  50. The Intel port is expected in the fourth quarter of 1994.
